Description

International politics is not like a laboratory science. We cannot do controlled experiments because it is impossible to hold other things constant while looking at one thing that changes” (Nye and Welch, 2013, p. 72).
This is revealed perfectly in the longstanding conflict of South China Sea (SCS) regarding the dispute over South China Sea Islands, which is expected to become one of the most important disputes in the coming few years. The region of the islands has turned into a region of disputes since six neighboring countries are jostling to occupy the islands in order to reap the possible economic benefits (Glaser, 2012).
