Zena Al-Kiswani, author, educator, and speaker, has released her new children’s book What Ahmad Loves, a heartfelt story that blends religion, language, and identity in a way that resonates with young readers across the globe.
Al-Kiswani, who holds a Master’s degree in TESOL from Grand Canyon University (USA), brings over seven years of experience as an ESL instructor into her writing. Having worked in diverse educational settings; from universities and private schools to community centers and U.S. Embassy programs, she has developed a teaching philosophy rooted in empathy, awareness, and real-world connection. These values now shine through her storytelling.
What Ahmad Loves follows the simple yet profound moments in the life of Ahmad, a young Muslim boy. Through his daily experiences, acts of kindness, family interactions, and moments of joy, the book celebrates both universal childhood themes and specifically Muslim identities.
Al-Kiswani designed the story not only as an engaging narrative but also as an educational tool. It introduces children to English vocabulary through familiar routines, while fostering emotional intelligence and pride in religious heritage.
“At the heart of my work is the belief that language and religion are inseparable,” says Al-Kiswani. “With What Ahmad Loves, I wanted Muslim children to see themselves in the stories they read, while also helping all young readers connect with values of empathy, kindness, and belonging.”
Beyond storytelling, Al-Kiswani remains dedicated to bridging gaps between people and communities. Whether through writing, teaching, or speaking, she continues to use language as a tool for connection, empowerment, and change.
With its warmth, relatability, and educational richness, What Ahmad Loves stands as both a celebration of identity and a resource for families and educators seeking meaningful stories for children.
